Canada is in a trade war with the United States that is threatening our economy and the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of Canadian families.

We can’t control what the U.S. does. But Canada can decide whether we provide more of the products the rest of the world wants to buy. 

Grassy Mountain is a proposed metallurgical coal project intended to serve steelmaking markets. For southern Alberta, the debate is about more than coal: it’s about jobs, investment, exports and the economic opportunities that come with resource development.

Ottawa says Canada needs to build major projects “at speeds not seen in generations” to diversify trade and reach new markets.

Alberta’s resource projects can help protect our economy and strenghten our country - but we have to say yes.

The community said yes.

72% of Crowsnest Pass voters backed Grassy Mountain in 2024, with turnout well above the last municipal election.

The people who live next to it want it.

Real jobs.

Northback estimates up to 400 permananent, mortgage-paying jobs once the mine is complete and up to 600 during construction. These are good jobs that will make our community and Aberta stronger.

Water comes first.

Modern mining projects in Canada have to meet some of the world's toughest environmental standards. And they should.

The project is designed to minimize the release of selenium from the outset. Water will be captured, tested, and treated using proven state of the art technology before being released.
